BAH: Basic Allowance for Housing
CFT: Combat Fitness Training
DI: Drill Instructor
DoD: Department of Defense
EAS: End of Active Service
EGA: Eagle, Globe, and Anchor
FOB: Forward Operating Base
IPAC: Instillation Personell Administration Center
LES: Leave earnings statement
MCT: Marine Combat Training
MOS: Military occupational specialty
MP: Military Police
MRE: Meals Ready to Eat
NCO: non commissioned officer
OOD: Officer Of the Day
PCS: permanent change of station (duty station)
PDS: permanent duty station
PFT: Physical Fitness Test
PT: physical training
Words
Barracks(squad bay): marine housing, basically the dorms of the military
Billet: Job or assignment
Blouse: Jacket
Blues: Dress Blues ( Formal uniform only worn on special occasion)
Boot: A new marine, has usually never seen combat before, fresh out of boot camp
Boot Bands: bands used to blouse up their trousers(pants)
Brig: Military Jail
Cover: His hat he wears with his uniforms, there are different covers for the different uniforms
Chow: food " i'm going to chow" I'm going to eat
Chow Hall: Mess hall / cafeteria
Colors: Raising and lowering of the flag. All Marines must stop and face the direction of the flag during colors.
Field Day: Barracks clean up day
Gear: Equipment ( flack jacket, kevlar etc.)
Head: Toilet/ bathroom
Hooch: A shelter
Leave: Authorized leave of absence more then 24 hours
Liberty Authorized leve less than 24 hours
Rack: Bed
Seabag: duffle bag
Skivvies: Underwear
stand by: prepare for "the word"
the Word: official order/ information
